Eating well is very important. I’m sure you have been eating a variety of healthy foods. For us, we usually eat foods that are baked, steamed, or grilled, rather than fried.  We don’t believe in adding unnecessary fats and oils into our body system. Do you share similar sentiment too? We also make it a point to buy only fresh foods like steamed vegetables and grilled chicken when eating out. Some people thought such simple dishes tasted bland but when prepared with the right ingredients and spices, they are really yummy. Suffice to say, such meals are much healthier compared to fast food or processed foods. By the way, we avoid frozen dinners at all cost, even we agreed that they could be so convenient. On top of that, we are mindful of our salt intake.

Here’s some quick tips to healthy eating:

1. Eat a balance meal, and stop eating when you are not hungry. You do not have to eat until you are full.

2. Limit the amount of junk food (candy, chips, soft drinks) that you eat. If you really cannot resist the temptation, share the junk food so that you will consume less.

3. Buy health food or organic food when you can. I’m sure you prefer not to take in the unhealthy extras that the food factory adds in.

4. Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables. Fruits and vegetable sticks are great alternatives to sinful midnight snacks like butter pop corns and chocolate chips.

5. Drink plenty of water and non-caffeine fluids each day (8-10 8oz. glasses a day). Yes, we encourage you to limit your intake of coffee and tea.

6. Women should consume 3-4 servings of dairy products that are high in calcium (milk, yogurt) to keep their bones healthy. BTW, that doesn’t mean men need not take calcium. Calcium supplement is for everybody.

7. Take health or vitamin supplement after consulting your health practitioners. If you are into a more holistic lifestyle, you might also talk to your herbalists for herbs that you can purchase or even grow in your garden.

1. Do aerobic exercise like biking, running, fast walking, swimming and aerobics for 3-5 times a week. Each time spend about 20-60 minutes. Do not over-stretch yourself. Though you should be breathing faster and your heart will be pounding hard, you must be able to talk while doing aerobic exercise.

2. Do strengthening exercises  like sit-ups, push-ups, leg lifts, weight training which will help build up your muscles and keep your bones healthy.

3. Do stretching exercises, for example  yoga, will make you more agile and flexible. You will be less likely to strain a muscle.

4. Get exercise by doing simple things, such as walking or riding a bicycle  instead of driving or taking the bus.
